At 1010 Publishing, we believe stories have the power to heal, connect, and transform. They are more than just words on a page—they are reflections of who we are, where we come from, and the journeys that shape us. That’s why our mission is deeply rooted in celebrating voices that are often left out of mainstream narratives—voices that bring bilingualism, biculturalism, and biliteracy to life.
In a world that is increasingly interconnected, the importance of diverse literature cannot be overstated. Representation matters, and when readers—especially young ones—see themselves reflected in stories, it builds confidence, belonging, and possibility. But representation is not just about characters who look like us. It’s also about stories that sound like our homes, echo our cultures, and hold space for our lived experiences. That’s the kind of storytelling 1010 Publishing is proud to champion.
Why Diverse Authors Matter
According to the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, in 2022, only 35% of books published in the U.S. were written by authors of color—despite the fact that more than half of public school students in the country identify as Black, Latino, Asian, Indigenous, or multiracial. The disparity is stark. And this is where our commitment comes in.
At 1010 Publishing, we uplift underrepresented authors and encourage stories that honor diverse languages, traditions, and perspectives. We believe publishing should reflect the rich fabric of our communities and the wide spectrum of human experience. That’s why we actively seek out creators whose voices offer something different—something real.
The Power of Bilingualism, Biculturalism, and Biliteracy
Our world is beautifully multilingual. In the United States alone, over 20% of households speak a language other than English at home. Yet the publishing industry still lacks enough high-quality bilingual books that resonate with these families.
We are working to change that.
1010 Publishing proudly focuses on bilingual books—stories told in two languages, stories that honor two cultures, and stories that help readers become biliterate. These books are powerful tools for education and empowerment. For bilingual children, they validate identity. For monolingual readers, they offer windows into new worlds. And for educators and families, they’re a bridge to inclusion, communication, and pride.
We’ve seen the impact first-hand. Children who see their home language in a book beam with pride. Parents feel seen. Teachers find culturally relevant tools to spark engagement. And entire communities grow stronger when language and culture are not just acknowledged, but celebrated.
